HEARTHWORK

As we reflect and respond to the events of 2020, Hunger & Thirst is reimagining ways to support, grow, nurture, help and be present with our community. We will focus our outreach efforts on what we, in name, claim as essential:  hunger and thirst.

We will keep the focus of our outreach work on hunger and thirst—food insecurity, clean water, food justice, food rescue, access to healthy, nutritious food and water for all people. We will adopt “*Food Sovereignty” principles, work, and organizations as guidance for our endeavors.

Hearthwork Mission Statement

A “Hearth" is defined as:

“the floor of a fireplace.

the area in front of a fireplace.

used as a symbol of one's home.”

**

We want to be at home and create home with our community.

We acknowledge our community reaches us just as much as we can reach them.

We acknowledge outreach work is often synonymous with charity work, and we understand a privileged mindset embedded in giving charity.

We want to know our community.

We want to provide nourishing, creative, and supportive home spaces for our community.

We are invested in forming and growing relationships in our community.

We are dedicated to fighting to end food insecurity in our community. (How?)

We are passionate about facilitating spaces for breaking bread and creating art with our community.

We know we have a lot of work to do.

Therefore, our new outreach initiative is called:

The Hunger and Thirst Theatre “Hearthwork”
