Parts One and Two of a modern-day Dracula adaptation by Patricia Lynn inspired by Bram Stoker's novel Dracula directed by Jacob Titus October 13-27, 2018 performed at Flamboyan Theater at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center
A woman is lost in the fog. She senses that something is stalking her. She stops. She turns her neck. She invites him deep within her... This unsettling dream has been plaguing Mina Murray-Harker for weeks. She tries to convince herself it must be caused by the stress of her husband being away on business in Transylvania. But then a mysterious heavy fog smothers Mina’s community in darkness. Dead bodies are discovered with a telltale wound to their necks. And Mina definitely senses that something is watching her, eager to make her nightmare come true... He Awakens Her and He Devours Her is a new rewritten expansion of Hunger & Thirst’s 2016 production of Dracula. Inspired by our audience’s feedback that they loved seeing a variety of modern feminist themes within a traditional monster story, He Awakens Her and He Devours Her delves deeper into these ideas. While staying true to the original novel, the story is more sharply focused on the struggles of Dracula’s female victims and illuminates how Bram Stoker’s themes regarding Victorian women’s role in society are strikingly relevant even today.
He Awakens Her and He Devours Her is a two-part theatrical event; each installment is 90 minutes in length. Audiences can choose how they wish to experience the full breadth of the epic tale: by going on two different nights, on the same day with a meal break in between, or in a single sitting as a special three hour event.
