CYCLE 4: FROM OUR BOOKSHELVES
(January-February 2013)

HTTC company members rummaged through their bookshelves and compiled a list of engaging, heartfelt plays that we would love to share with you in the Reading Salon environment. Focusing primarily on contemporary playwrights,  HTTC is excited to explore  a wide assortment of plays selected straight from our personal libraries.

THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO by Alfred Uhry
January 3rd, 2013

Picture
"Joe, what you said about--about Jew-hater talk--I thought about it a lot, and it's not true. How could it be? It would be like hating myself...It's only ignorance. I don't know anything. There's just a big hole where Judaism is supposed to be."
                                                 ~ Sunny, Act II
Participating Actors: Heather McDevitt Barton, Jessica Crandall, Judith Ingber, Jordan Kaplan, Patricia Lynn, Max Rosenak, Ashley Wickett
TRANSLATIONS by Brian Friel
January 9th, 2013
"Yes, it is a rich language, Lieutenant, full of the mythologies of fantasy and hope and self-deception--a syntax opulent with tomorrows. It is our response to mud cabins and a diet of potatoes; our only method to replying to inevitabilities."
~ Hugh, Act II, Scene I
Participating Actors: Britannie Bond, Natalie Hegg, Jordan Kaplan, Patricia Lynn, Matthew Ellis Murphy, Alana Rader, John Tracey

COASTAL DISTURBANCES by Tina Howe
January 14th, 2013
"I've been having a tough time lately. Well, when I am not having a tough time...? With my work, I mean. I've been trying too hard. You know when everything comes out too perfect?...When result takes over intention? I'm hoping to regroup here. You know, relax a little. Take in more of the world--sandpipers, jellyfish, hermit crabs...widen my focus..."
~ Holly, Act I, Scene II
Participating Actors: Heather McDevitt Barton, Vichet Chum, Jordan Kaplan, Patricia Lynn, Marianne Miller, Jenna Panther, Kymberly Smith
THE ANIMAL KINGDOM by Philip Barry
January 23rd, 2013
Picture
"It's true, that side of it was never so much to us, was it? Not in comparison—not after those first crazy months. But I thought that was natural. I was even glad of it—glad to find it was—other needs that held us together. Closely—without claims—not a claim—but so closely."
~ Daisy, Act I, Scene II
Participating Actors: Britannie Bond, Natalie Hegg, Jordan Kaplan, Patricia Lynn, Brian Sheppard, Kevin Paul Smith
WONDER OF THE WORLD by David Lindsay-Abaire
January 31st, 2013

"That night, I thought, "Who is this sleeping man next to me?"...Because I had no secrets. I had nothing extra inside of me. I had never done anything without considering him. And that's why I came here. To fill myself up. To stuff myself with whatever I want. Gorge myself until I'm ready to burst."
                                    ~ Cass, Act I, Scene 9
Participating Actors: Britannie Bond, Nick DeMarco, Jordan Kaplan, Patricia Lynn, Lauren Pennline, Kevin Paul Smith, Kymberly Smith
Picture
A LIE OF THE MIND by Sam Shepard
February 4th, 2013
Picture
"You think it's me, don't you? You didn't used to think it was, but now you think it's me. You think your whole life went sour because of me. Because of Mother. Because of Beth. If only your life was free of females, then you'd be free yourself."
~ Meg, Act III, Scene II
Participating Actors: Jordan Kaplan, Patricia Lynn, Rebeca Miller, Kristin Parker, Max Rosenak, Kyle Schaefer, Ricardo Sebastian, Amanda Sykes
